Notes
- Clarifying note: Eventually the difference between direct investment balances may not match the flow of investment reported in the balance of payments due to: a) expansion of coverage b) incorporation of untimely information, variations of which are transactions of another period c) other flows not due to transactions, as revaluations.
- Technical Note: From 2009 to date, the figures for FDI in the country recorded adjustments resulting from the addition of new updates and changes arising from methodological information Coordinated Direct Investment Survey (CDIS) promoted by the IMF. Participation in the CDIS let to improve the statistics of direct investment and extend the coverage of the sample of firms surveyed, while allowing initiate action to move towards the adoption of new concepts, definitions and measurements given by the VI Balance of Payments Manual. The main changes are caused by the inclusion of information from companies known as "fellows enterprises", in addition to the direct investor and the incorporation of the category of reserves in the form of direct investment. Investment data are presented on a net basis, it means, a direct investment actives are deducted from the liabilities, so the balance of a country will eventually be negative.
- Explanatory note: declaration of confidentiality The “C” indicates that the data is confidential, in response to the Statistical Secrecy to which the basic information used to generate FDI statistics is subject, not allowing the identification of individual sources, as established by the Organic Law of the BCR and the Law of Access to Public Information.
- Explanatory note: net flows or transactions They are a financial indicator, and offer information on investment activity in El Salvador, from abroad, during a given period. They involve the creation, transformation, exchange, transfer or extinction of economic value. They arise from the interaction between direct investors and direct investment companies or between other affiliated companies, and not from the financing activities or operations of these companies in general terms. They are presented in a net manner, considering that there may be inflows, but also outflows (in some cases generating results with a negative sign). They do not include revaluations of any nature. The data obey the directional principle and are consistent with balance of payments statistics (which incorporates direct investment in El Salvador and El Salvador's direct investment abroad).
